SO YEAH… just finished gettin all the songs to a ‘final mix’ point without vocals… and holy hell this album sounds so much ballsier and clearer than the last one… fucking stoked! Annddd just got done working on an epic ‘interlude’ or whatever the fuck you want to call it…. mmm mmmmm bitch!

Just like everywhere else in the US right now, Birmingham has had some weird fucking weather lately… Today I went outside in shorts and a t-shirt and had to use the AC in the van while driving…. and yet 2 days ago it looked like this outside:

WEIRD.

Wellll anyway… since we have a nice ghetto DIY vocal booth goin where you can hear our heater whenever it’s on, we’ve been playing freeze-out for vocal tracking… what a treat! Two songs are done now, and more coming ASAP. Since we wrote everything in the past month, Krysta hasn’t had much time to work on stuff so it’s a combination of writing and recording.. hence the slow progress. BUT it will be finished soon… and then we are MOVING TO CALIFORNIA and STARTING TOUR ON MARCH 10TH! who wants to help us move? anyone? 2000 mile drive? yeah? nope…

Notice my brand new Orange cab being used us a coaster and trash can… ::tear:: although i’m sure it will somehow manage to get smashed into 500 pieces within a week of being on tour… fail!

SO YEAH! drums are done! Mikey is now spending all of his time beating Dead Space 2… what a dick. Our buddy Ryan Boesch who engineered our last album is here hangin’ out with us and helpin out now.. so that rules! here is a photo of him doing his best impression of the Secretary of Education from the best movie  of all time IDIOCRACY:

We started working on guitar tones yesterday, and after TONS of dicking around with different settings, we decided to run the Axe FX Ultra thru my Engl powerball into my Orange PPC412 cab… talk about sweet fucking tone… i have dreamed of owning such insane gear ALL OF MY LIFE… so it’s nuts to finally own it and be able to record with it. ::tear:: And for the recording nerds out there, we’re running the mics thru a Vintech 473 preamp strip. So anyway… John and I knocked out a song late last night and finished up 3 more today! Hoorah for locking ourselves in the beat dungeon with PBR and red bull and working our asses off all day.  Here are some photos of the guitar setup!

Wellll yesterday we finished up drums for what we thought was the last track of the album… but then we ended up writing another song! So today Mikey is going to finish up drums for this newest song, and then we’re going to review all of the drum tracks to make sure we’re not going to redo any songs… and then GEEEEETAR time!

Yesterday also ruled because we got hooked the fuck up by the beautiful people at Pabst Blue Ribbon beer… shirts, hats, hoodies, BEACH TOWELS?!?! good stuff indeed.

To celebrate, we spent the evening drinking PBR and knockin out another song:

SO YEAH! finishing up drums and moving on! Also trying to decide on an album title and theme for the artwork… As per usual, we have 23289 different ideas… but since it’s not a song where we can throw all of those ideas together and since the last album art was an explosion of flavor, we’re having a tough time deciding on something now! But hoorah… hopefully we’ll have an announcement on all that stuff soon.

And last but not least, good ol’ Mike AKA Rickshaw AKA Ricky Martin had a few beers and decided to shave his beard off for the first time in a few years! He know has a pretty killer molestache.

Wellll Mikey knocked out 2 more song tonight and we might do another one in a bit?  I’ve got the 5 songs he’s done thus far half-ass edited/mixed and dayum… made me way more excited about this album. we demo all of our ideas/songs with programmed drums in ‘RECORD’ and honestly they sound fucking sick like that, but nothing beats a human being playing something and giving it life and making it not sterile sounding. programmed drums can sound awesome for sure.. but REAL drums with REAL dynamics played by a human will ALWAYS be un-fuck-with-able,

and people keep asking on various sites, so here is the info on drum mics/pres/etc!

KICK - beta52 for reference only really + alesis DM5 trigger module. the mic is pretty much only to make sure the trigger is accurately capturing whats going on and makes it easy to spot extra trigger hits, etc.  some of mikey’s footwork is fucking crazy sounding, but come watch us live and see him play ALL of it… no editing trick bullshit to make impossible patterns he can’t really play live.

well the past 2 days we were so busy i forgot to post on here… hoorah! spent all day Tuesday working on tones and then at around midnight we tracked drums for the first song. Yesterday we edited and messed with editing/mixing the first song to make sure we could get everything how we wanted and. after confirming that everything did indeed sound awesome, we then moved on to song 2!

already the drums sound more crisp and sexy than “It’s All Happening” … so the finished product should be pretty damn delightful! currently Mikey is working on a few last-minute fills and whatnot before we start tracking another new song…. stokedddd.

  10 songs i do believe… and cant promise for it being much over 30 mins though haha… we typically write 3 minute-ish songs.. never on purpose it just sorta happens! we dont repeat much and changing riffs every 10 seconds ruins the ‘long song’ thing for us…

  nope! not this year.. but we have a fucking insane summer tour, so no worries!

• Question: Jonny Craig tweeted that the Downtown Battle Mountain II tour is canceled. Is this true? - fuckyeahbands

  not true at all.. he’s taking a break from his SOLO stuff… DGD is still on… and so is that tour.
